Sukkah Building

Image
Sukkah This week we have been learning about Sukkot! We built a Sukkah on the playground and decorated it with our friends. We worked on a Sukkah art projects this week. A Sukkah is a three walled structure with a roof made of tree branches. The branches protect from the sun and heat but allow the stars to be seen at night.  Sukkahs were originally built by Jewish people as they were fleeing Egypt after being held captive. Jewish people relied on their Sukkah for protection for over 40 years.  We have enjoyed decorating our playground Sukkah with paint. We also created a Sukkah decoration for our Sukkah at home. It is traditional to decorate, eat, and even sleep in a Sukkah during the week of Sukkot.  (SC4.1) Sukkah Craft: Decorating Sticks to build our Sukkah art work!
